Land-for-Job Scam: Rouse Avenue Court Summons Lalu Prasad Yadav and Sons

In a significant development in the ongoing land-for-job scam, the Rouse Avenue Court has issued summons to former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, his sons Tejashwi Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav, along with other key accused, to appear before it on October 7. This case has captured national attention due to its high-profile defendants and the serious allegations of corruption that span several years.

This latest legal action follows the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) submission of a supplementary charge sheet on August 6 against 11 individuals involved in the scandal, despite four of the accused having passed away. Notably, this is the first time Tej Pratap Yadav has been summoned in connection with the land-for-job case.

The scandal, commonly referred to as the land-for-job scam, involves allegations that, during his tenure as Union Railway Minister from 2004 to 2009, Lalu Prasad Yadav engaged in corrupt practices by exchanging railway job offers for land transfers into his and his family members’ names. These accusations emerged prominently in May 2022 when the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a new case against Yadav and his family, following his release on bail in the unrelated fodder scam.

The case alleges that the illicit scheme involved appointing “substitutes” to Group D posts in various railway zones in return for financial benefits through property transfers. This series of events underscores ongoing concerns about corruption within political ranks and the exploitation of power for personal gain.

The court’s summoning adds another layer to the Yadav family’s legal troubles, coming shortly after the Delhi High Court granted regular bail to businessman Amit Katyal, another accused in the land-for-job money laundering case, on medical grounds.
