Allahabad High Court Reserves Decision on Azam Khan’s Bail Plea in 2022 Theft Case

The Allahabad High Court has reserved its verdict on the bail plea of Azam Khan, a former Uttar Pradesh minister and a prominent leader of the Samajwadi Party, in connection with a 2022 theft case. Justice Samit Gopal concluded the session after hearing arguments from Khan’s legal representative and the state government’s counsel.

The theft accusation revolves around a road sweeping machine, reportedly purchased by the Nagar Palika Parishad of Rampur district, which was allegedly stolen and later found buried on the premises of Jauhar University, an institution associated with Khan. The case was initiated by Wakar Ali Khan at the Kotwali police station in Rampur, implicating not only Azam Khan but also his son, Abdullah Azam Khan, and five others in the alleged theft.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), in 2014, the accused purportedly misused their official powers to steal the government-owned cleaning machine. The machine was purportedly concealed by being buried within the grounds of Jauhar University and was subsequently unearthed by a state agency following an excavation.
