Delhi High Court Rejects Kejriwal’s Plea, Upholds Arrest in Excise Policy Case

In a significant development, the Delhi High Court on Monday endorsed the arrest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, implicating him in the controversial excise policy scam. The court dismissed his plea for immediate relief and suggested that he seek bail from the trial court instead.

Presided over by Justice Neena Bansal Krishna, the court had previously deferred its decision on Kejriwal’s bail application, following extensive arguments on July 29. This decision marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing saga that has drawn extensive public and political attention.

The CBI, which has been rigorously investigating the case, described Kejriwal as the principal architect of the scam, which allegedly involved manipulations of excise policies. According to Advocate D.P. Singh, representing the CBI, Kejriwal’s detention was pivotal for the integrity of their investigation, which led to the rapid submission of a charge sheet.

In contrast, Kejriwal’s legal team contested the arrest, denouncing it as a calculated tactic to unjustly incarcerate him. They argued that the arrest lacked sufficient legal basis and was intended to keep him away from his official duties under the guise of procedural necessity.
