The Delhi High Court on Friday called for the Delhi Police’s perspective regarding the bail application of Bibhav Kumar, an aide to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, in connection with the alleged assault on AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal.
During a session chaired by Justice Amit Sharma, a vacation bench issued a notice concerning Kumar’s bail request and directed the Delhi Police to present a status report on the matter. Kumar has been held in judicial custody since his arrest on May 18, following the purported incident at the Chief Minister’s official residence on May 13.
The legal proceedings have attracted attention due to the high-profile nature of the case and the individuals involved. The Tis Hazari court previously denied Kumar’s bail on June 7, citing the “grave and serious” nature of the charges against him and expressing concerns over the potential influence on witnesses.

Earlier, another sessions court had rejected Kumar’s initial bail plea on May 27. The court reasoned that there seemed to be no “pre-meditation” on Maliwal’s part in filing the FIR, emphasizing that her claims warranted serious consideration and could not be dismissed outright.
The charges against Kumar, framed under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, include criminal intimidation, assault or criminal force with the intent to disrobe a woman, and an attempt to commit culpable homicide.
