The Madhya Pradesh High Court has expressed its displeasure over the government’s failure to respond over the past thirteen years in a case concerning the appointment of Anganwadi workers. Justice Vivek Agarwal of the High Court has imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the government, instructing the Sidhi Collector to appear personally with the records at the next hearing.
The case was initiated in 2011 by Sidhi resident Sudha Gupta, who challenged the appointment procedures at her local Anganwadi. Despite the High Court issuing a notice to the government in July 2011 and the government’s promise to respond by January 2013, no official response has been submitted to date.
The single-judge bench, expressing significant discontent with the government’s attitude, directed that the fine be deposited into the account of the Madhya Pradesh High Court Legal Services Committee within three days. The next hearing of the case is scheduled for May 30, where the Sidhi Collector is expected to present the relevant appointment records. Advocate Gopal Singh represents the petitioner, Sudha Gupta, in this ongoing legal matter.
