Court Dismisses Plea Alleging Slow Poisoning in Mukhtar Ansari’s Death, Rules Heart Attack as Cause

In a recent ruling, the MP/MLA court in Barabanki dismissed a plea submitted by Mukhtar Ansari’s lawyer, rejecting the allegation of slow poisoning leading to Ansari’s death. The court, after thorough deliberation on Thursday, accepted the medical report from Banda’s government hospital, affirming that Mukhtar Ansari died of a heart attack.

Following Mukhtar Ansari’s demise, his lawyer, Advocate Randhir Singh Suman, had filed a petition on March 29, urging the court to register a report based on Ansari’s prior statement where he expressed fears of being slowly poisoned in jail. The court, presided over by Additional Sessions Judge Kamalkant Shrivastav, heard the plea amidst the ongoing gangster case involving Ansari and 11 others.

Senior government advocate Mathura Prasad Verma strongly opposed the petition on behalf of the prosecution. The court, after resuming post-lunch, ruled out the plea based on the medical documents provided by the Banda Jail Superintendent, which clearly stated the cause of death as cardiac arrest.

Furthermore, during Thursday’s hearing on the gangster case in the MP/MLA court, co-accused Zafar alias Chanda, from Sant Kabir Nagar Jail, and Afroz from the Ghazipur district jail, were presented via video conferencing. The court accepted the absence of the remaining accused, as requested by their lawyer, and scheduled the next hearing for April 8.

It’s important to note that Mukhtar Ansari and his 12 associates were charged in a gangster case following the registration of a fraud case for ambulance registration using forged documents at Barabanki’s ARTO office on March 25, 2022.
