Supreme Court Rules Punishment Disproportionate to the Gravity of the Offense Violates Article 14 of the Constitution

Recently, the Supreme Court set aside the Judgment of High Court stating that the punishment given was disproportionate, considering that there was no direct and cogent evidence against the appellant. The divisional bench of Justice Krishna Murari and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah noted that a person cannot be deprived of pension dehors the authority of law.
