On Thursday, Madras High Court ordered an Autopsy on the body of a forty-year-old conservancy worker with an Autopsy surgeon, Forensic Specialist, and a Pathologist if not already done in the said case.
This order was passed when the Bench was hearing a plea filed by one Ambika (a daily wage worker), deceased’s wife, who alleged that her husband was vaccinated on 21.01.2021. Still, his health started deteriorating and then on 30th January, while travelling to Madurai for a checkup, he vomited and collapsed at Aruppukottai Bus Stand.
She further alleged that her husband was unwilling to get vaccinated, but when Panchayat authorities threatened to terminate him for work, he relented and got vaccinated. The petitioner has alleged that her husband died after getting vaccinated.
Learned counsel for the petitioner submitted that even though it is just a suspicion, respondents should have followed the AEFI Operational Guidelines.
As per the said guidelines, an autopsy has to be conducted by a team of Doctors consisting of a Forensic Specialist, Pathologist, and an Autopsy surgeon. The counsel further submitted that as per recent guidelines for Covid-19 vaccination, AEFI cases should be investigated.
WHO has noted that Adverse Event Following Immunization or AEFI is any untoward occurrence that follows immunization and doesn’t have any causal relationship with vaccine usage.
As adverse event can be any unintended or unfavourable sign, symptom or disease.
