The Uttarakhand High Court has directed the Public Service Commission to revise the selection list for the recruitment of Draftsman posts, holding that the Urban Development Department must follow the prescribed standards applicable to both ITI certificate and diploma holders.
The order came from a single bench of Justice Ravindra Maithani while hearing a petition filed by Prakash, a resident of Chamoli, who challenged the selection list issued on January 8, 2025.
Prakash argued that the merit list carried separate cut-offs in violation of existing recruitment rules and that not a single candidate holding an ITI qualification, including himself, had been selected despite being eligible under the advertisement.
As the issue escalated, selected candidate Lalit Mohan Pandey along with 32 others approached the court seeking to be added as parties to the case.
The recruitment traces back to an initial advertisement issued by the Uttarakhand Subordinate Service Selection Commission (UKSSSC) in 2021. The process was later transferred to the Public Service Commission after irregularities came to light. A fresh advertisement was released on May 29, 2023, for 64 Draftsman posts.
The written examination took place on November 5, 2023, and results were declared on December 21, 2023, following which the selection list dated January 8, 2025, became the subject of litigation.
With the court directing a revision of the list, the recruitment process for the Draftsman vacancies will require fresh scrutiny to ensure parity between qualifications and adherence to prescribed standards. The Commission is now expected to undertake the revision in line with the court’s ruling.
