In a crucial decision impacting thousands of medical aspirants, the Supreme Court of India has refused to postpone the counseling date for NEET-UG 2024, scheduled to begin on July 6.
The plea was made by a petitioner who argued that the counseling should be deferred since the Supreme Court is set to hear related NEET-UG petitions on July 8.
The petitioner’s request sought a delay in the counseling process to ensure that any decisions made by the Supreme Court on July 8 could be taken into account before students proceeded with their counseling. However, the Supreme Court bench, after considering the plea, decided against the postponement.
The bench stated, “The counseling process for NEET-UG 2024 shall commence as scheduled on July 6. We find no compelling reason to defer the process, as this would cause unnecessary uncertainty and anxiety among the candidates who are awaiting their counseling.”
