SC Reserves Order on Karnataka Govt’s Plea to Cancel Bail of Actor Darshan in Renukaswamy Murder Case

The Supreme Court on Thursday reserved its order on a plea by the Karnataka government seeking cancellation of bail granted to Kannada actor Darshan and others in the sensational Renukaswamy murder case.

A bench of Justices J.B. Pardiwala and R. Mahadevan reserved its decision after hearing arguments from both the state and the accused. The court also directed counsel representing some of the co-accused to file their written submissions within a week.

The case stems from the Karnataka High Court’s December 13, 2024, ruling granting bail to Darshan, actress Pavithra Gowda, and several others. Challenging the order, the state moved the apex court, contending that the gravity of the offence warranted cancellation of bail.

According to the police, the victim was confined in a shed in Bengaluru for three days in June 2024, subjected to torture, and later found dead in a drain.
