On 16.10.2020, the Supreme Court bench dismissed a plea seeking President’s rule in Maharashtra. The petitioners were advised to approach the President of India instead.

Three persons from Delhi filed this Petition. They requested the Court to remove the Maha Vikas Aghadi government of Maharastra that is led by Uddhav Thackerey.

Hon’ble Chief Justice Bobde told the petitioners that the Court could not entertain their plea. It was observed that they should approach the President of India to get their desired relief.

During the hearing, the Court asked the petitioners if they knew how big Maharashtra was?

The Supreme Court asked them not to waste the time of the Apex Court with such frivolous PILs.

As per the petition, it was alleged that the law and order situation in Maharashtra had been drastically deteriorating under the leadership of Uddhav Thackerey.

Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide and demolition of Kangana Ranaut’s office were cited as examples.

It was further alleged that the government was taking illegal action against people without following the rule of law.

Attack on Madan Lal Sharma, a former Indian Navy Officer, were also cited as examples of deteriorating law and order situation in Maharashtra.

The petitioners stated that in light of current events in Maharashtra, the army should be brought in to control the situation.

The Hon’ble Supreme Court was not impressed with the line arguments and dismissed the PIL.
