PIL in Allahabad High Court Seeks CBI Probe into Rahul Gandhi’s Alleged British Citizenship

In a fresh legal challenge for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Allahabad High Court, demanding a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into his alleged British citizenship. The petition, filed on Thursday, urges the court to instruct the CBI to investigate under the provisions of the British Nationality and Status (BNS) Act.

The PIL alleges discrepancies in the citizenship status of the former Congress president, citing documents that purportedly reveal Rahul Gandhi’s involvement with the British government. This legal move seeks to unravel the details regarding his nationality, which, if proven to be British, could have significant implications for his political career in India.

This legal turmoil is not a new predicament for Rahul Gandhi. In a similar vein, last month, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy took the issue to the Delhi High Court, waving a document he claimed represented Gandhi’s annual return filed with the British government. The document raised questions about the legitimacy of Gandhi’s Indian citizenship, stirring a wave of political controversy.
