In a recent development, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) approached the Calcutta High Court, challenging an FIR filed by the West Bengal Police against its officers. The High Court has granted permission to the NIA to file a petition, with a hearing scheduled for today. The NIA is currently investigating a blast that took place in Bhupatinagar, East Midnapore, in 2022. Officers were attacked during an investigation in the area on Saturday, leading to injuries and damage to their vehicle.
Clash During Investigation
The confrontation occurred when NIA officers were questioning two local leaders from the Trinamool Congress. The investigation team’s vehicle was vandalized, resulting in broken windows and injuries to an officer. Following the incident, the NIA lodged a formal complaint at the Bhupatinagar police station, although no arrests have been made yet.
Complaint Filed by Trinamool Leader’s Family
In response to the arrest of a Trinamool Congress leader, their family filed a complaint against the NIA officers for alleged misconduct. The West Bengal Police initiated an investigation after registering the FIR. The NIA stated that the search was conducted according to the rules, with searches at five locations in the presence of impartial witnesses, CRPF personnel, and female constables.
