In a significant development, the Kerala High Court has rejected a plea for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the death of Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Naveen Babu. The plea, filed by Babu’s widow, Manjusha, sought a more thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death, citing dissatisfaction with the current probe led by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).
Manjusha Babu has been vocal in her criticism of the ongoing investigation, suggesting that it lacked direction and efficacy. Her concerns were amplified by the involvement of P P Divya, a politically influential figure, who was arrested in connection with the incident but whom Manjusha believes could unduly influence the investigation.
In her petition, Manjusha claimed that there has been “no meaningful progress” by the SIT, and accused them of failing to make positive efforts in gathering crucial evidence. She expressed a deep mistrust in the SIT’s commitment to uncovering the truth, which led her to seek a CBI inquiry.
Despite her allegations and the subsequent legal appeal, the Kerala High Court decided against transferring the case to the CBI. The court’s decision has left Manjusha determined to pursue further legal action. Speaking to reporters, she said, “This is not the final order, and we will go to any extent.” She emphasized that her fight for justice for her late husband continues, signaling her intent to challenge the High Court’s ruling.
