In a decisive move, the Jharkhand High Court on Monday issued orders for the Director General of Police (DGP), Anurag Gupta, and Ranchi’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Chandan Kumar Sinha, to present themselves before the court. The summons demands an explanation of the measures being implemented to address the escalating crime rates in Ranchi, the state’s capital.
The directive from the division bench, led by Acting Chief Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad and Justice Arun Kumar Rai, follows closely on the heels of two high-profile murders—that of an advocate in the Ranchi district court and a special branch police officer, Anupam Kachhap.
Responding to the court’s concerns, DGP Gupta, accompanied by SSP Sinha and Kotwali DSP Prakash Soy, informed the bench of their proactive steps following the advocate’s murder. A special investigating team was swiftly assembled, leading to the arrest of two suspects, Roshan Munda and Sandeep, after a firefight during their apprehension.
The police are currently delving into the motive behind the advocate Gopi Krishan’s murder, with further details expected to emerge shortly. In the interim, the court has instructed DGP Gupta to ensure the safety and security of the deceased advocate’s family.
Gopi Krishan was fatally stabbed on August 2 outside his residence in the Madhukam area under the jurisdiction of Sukhdevnagar police station, triggering alarm over public safety.
