High Court Orders Resumption of Ladhowal Toll Amid Farmer Protests in Ludhiana

In a move that has escalated tensions in the region, the Ladhowal toll plaza in Ludhiana resumed operations on Wednesday under heavy police security, following orders from the Punjab and Haryana High Court. This decision comes amid longstanding protests by local farmers demanding a reduction in the toll rates, which are considered the highest in Punjab.

Farmers had been staging a permanent sit-in at the toll plaza to voice their demands. However, the High Court’s intervention mandated the resumption of toll operations, leading to a significant police presence at the site to enforce the order and disperse the protesting farmers.

In response to the court’s order, farmer organizations declared their intent to prevent the operation of the toll plaza under any circumstances. Leaders from these organizations have emphasized that their struggle is for the people and vowed to continue their fight.

Early Wednesday morning, authorities deployed a large contingent of police officers at the toll plaza and established barricades. Additionally, several farmer leaders were detained, and others were placed under house arrest as a precautionary measure to prevent further disruption.
