In a shocking revelation from Kanpur, a high court lawyer fell victim to a sophisticated honeytrap scam involving a young woman and two accomplices, all of whom have now been apprehended by the local police.
According to the details provided by DCP South, Ankita Sharma, the incident unfolded after the lawyer connected with a woman named Nancy Khan through popular social media dating apps Tinder and Bumble. The interaction, which initially began as a casual connection, quickly escalated into frequent meetings. The woman eventually lured the lawyer to a hotel under the pretense of a private meeting, where she recorded an explicit video of him.
The aftermath of the incident saw the victim blackmailed and stripped of his SUV as the young woman fled the scene. The lawyer, threatened with public exposure of the video, was coerced into agreeing to pay Rs. 5 lakh. However, he later reached out to the police, leading to a sting operation in the Kidwai Nagar area, where the suspects were caught red-handed.
The culprits, identified as Tanu Singh (23), Saurabh Dutt (25), and Sanjog Jaiswal (26), hail from different parts of Prayagraj. Singh, who used multiple aliases such as Nancy and Harshita, is accused of befriending unsuspecting victims on dating apps before blackmailing them.
Despite the threats, the lawyer chose not to file an FIR in his hometown of Prayagraj, fearing social stigma. It was only after the meeting in Kanpur, where the social pressures felt diminished, that he decided to inform the police, leading to the unraveling of the racket.
