High Court Directs Bar Council to Ensure that Advocates Don’t Wear Gown and Band During Strikes

On Wednesday the Madras High Court at Madurai passed an Interim Order restraining the Lawyers from wearing Advocate’s Gown, Coat and Band while participating in demonstrations and strikes.

A Division Bench of Hon’ble Justice N Kirubakaran and Hon’ble Justice B Pugalendhi  observed that Advocate’s gown can only be worn within the court premises.

The Court has directed the State Bar Council of Tamin Nadu and Pudducherry to ensure and issue directives to Advocates to refrain from wearing black gown and band during strikes.
