In a significant development aimed at strengthening the judiciary, the Centre has officially appointed four judicial officers as judges of the Telangana High Court. This move comes as part of the efforts to fill the vacancies in the High Court, which currently operates below its full strength.
The new appointees, announced by Union Minister of State for Law & Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, include two female judges, reflecting ongoing initiatives to promote gender diversity within the judiciary. The officers elevated to these prestigious positions are Renuka Yara, Narsing Rao Nandikonda, Tirumala Devi Eada (also known as Thirupathamma K), and Madhusudhan Rao Bobbili Ramaiah.
This announcement was made through a post on the social platform X by Minister Meghwal, who highlighted that the appointments were made “in exercise of the power conferred by the Constitution of India.” The President of India, following consultations with the Chief Justice of India, ratified these appointments.
The recommendation for these appointments originated from the Supreme Court Collegium, which convened on January 11 to deliberate on the nominations. The Telangana High Court, which has a sanctioned strength of 42 judges, has been functioning with only 26, underscoring the critical need for these appointments.
