Delhi High Court Seeks ED’s Response on Al Falah Chairman Jawad Ahmed Siddiqui’s Interim Bail Plea for Wife’s Cancer Treatment

The Delhi High Court on Thursday directed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to examine medical records submitted by Al Falah University group chairman Jawad Ahmed Siddiqui, who has sought temporary release from custody to assist his wife during her cancer treatment.

Justice Mini Pushkarna issued notice to the ED and directed the agency to verify the documents before the next hearing on November 6. Siddiqui, who is facing two money laundering cases, has requested either one week’s interim bail or custody parole on humanitarian and medical grounds.

The ED opposed his request for interim bail, arguing that Siddiqui posed a flight risk.

Wife Scheduled for Chemotherapy on November 10

According to the application, Siddiqui’s wife is suffering from stage 4 ovarian cancer and is scheduled to undergo another cycle of chemotherapy on November 10.

His counsel told the court that Siddiqui needed to consult doctors regarding the next stage of his wife’s treatment. He sought permission for his client to remain out of custody for seven days to attend to her medical needs.

As an alternative, the lawyer requested custody parole, under which Siddiqui would be allowed to visit his wife while accompanied by armed police personnel.

Considering the urgency cited by the defence, the High Court scheduled the matter for November 6 and sought the ED’s response after verification of the medical documents.

The court had previously considered a similar request in July, when it declined to grant Siddiqui interim bail but allowed him to visit his wife on three specified dates under custody parole.

Two Money Laundering Cases Against Siddiqui

Siddiqui was first arrested by the ED on November 18, 2025, in a case registered under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) concerning alleged financial irregularities at his Faridabad-based educational institution.

The investigation originated from two FIRs registered by the Delhi Police Crime Branch. According to the allegations, Al Falah University misrepresented its accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and recognition by the University Grants Commission (UGC), thereby misleading students and their parents.

The ED claims that the university generated Rs 415.10 crore between 2018 and 2025 and that money collected from students was diverted for personal purposes.

Siddiqui was later arrested in a separate money laundering investigation involving the alleged fraudulent acquisition of land valued at Rs 45 crore in Delhi.

Al Falah University had separately attracted attention during an investigation into an alleged white-collar terror network.

Two doctors associated with the institution were arrested in that investigation. Another doctor linked to its hospital, Umar-un-Nabi, was identified as the suicide bomber responsible for the November 10, 2025 explosion outside Delhi’s Red Fort, which claimed 15 lives.

The High Court will take up Siddiqui’s request for interim bail or custody parole on November 6 after receiving the ED’s response.
