Delhi High Court Round-Up for April 10

Important cases heard in Delhi High Court on Monday, April 10:

* Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri appeared before the HC and tendered an unconditional apology in connection with a criminal contempt case over his alleged remarks against a judge of the court.

* HC said it will hear on May 4 a plea by JNU student Sharjeel Imam seeking bail in connection with a 2020 communal riots case involving allegations of sedition.

* HC has directed the city police to coordinate with their counterparts in Uttar Pradesh and constitute a joint task force to stop alleged illegal sand mining on the banks of the Yamuna river in the northern part of the city.

* The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) approached the HC seeking direction to the Election Commission of India (ECI) to update in its record the party’s amended bylaws, contending the delay in doing so was coming in the way of the party contesting the Karnataka assembly polls.

* Noting the “direct and pernicious impact” of smokeless tobacco on public health, the HC affirmed a ban imposed by the food safety commissioner on manufacture, storage and sale of gutkha, pan masala, flavoured tobacco and similar products in the city.

* HC asked the Centre and the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) on Monday to state their stand in response to a petition alleging the closing down of the Kendriya Vidyalaya NTPC Badarpur here.
