Delhi HC Issues Summons to Priya Kapur in Family Trust Dispute; Sunjay Kapur’s Mother Alleges Fraud

The Delhi High Court on Thursday issued summons to Priya Kapur—widow of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur—and others in a civil suit filed by his 80-year-old mother, Rani Kapur, who has challenged the validity of the “RK Family Trust”, alleging it was created through “forged, fabricated and fraudulent” documents.

Justice Mini Pushkarna directed the defendants, including Priya Kapur and Sunjay’s children from his second marriage to actor Karisma Kapoor, to file their written statements. The court also issued notice on Rani Kapur’s application seeking interim relief but declined to pass any immediate order to maintain the status quo on the estate. The matter has been posted for further hearing on March 23.

In her lawsuit, Rani Kapur has sought to declare the RK Family Trust, constituted in her name in October 2017, as null and void. She claims that the trust was created without her knowledge and through a “complex web of illegal transactions” allegedly executed by Priya Kapur and eight others, in collusion with her now-deceased son, Sunjay Kapur.

According to the plea, Rani Kapur was the sole beneficiary of her late husband Surinder Kapur’s estate. Surinder Kapur was the founder of the Sona Group of Companies. She alleges that a systematic fraud was committed to transfer her assets into the RK Family Trust without her consent or knowledge.

The plaint adds that Sunjay Kapur never informed her that she had been divested of her rights and never shared a copy of the trust deed with her.

The dispute over Sunjay Kapur’s estate has further widened with his children from his second marriage to actor Karisma Kapoor also filing a plea in the Delhi High Court. They have challenged the authenticity of their late father’s will and accused Priya Kapur of acting out of greed.

Sunjay Kapur passed away on June 12, 2025, following a sudden cardiac arrest during a polo match in England.
