On Tuesday, the Delhi High Court instructed Mandoli Jail authorities to address the request of alleged conman Sukesh Chandrashekar for enhanced virtual interaction with his legal team, amid his involvement in multiple high-profile criminal cases.
Chandrashekar, currently an undertrial, has contended that the current allowance of two virtual meetings per week, each lasting 45 minutes, is insufficient given the complexity of his legal challenges. He has petitioned for five weekly meetings to better manage his defense.
Justice Amit Mahajan has directed the jail officials to treat Chandrashekar’s plea as a formal representation and to decide on the matter. The petitioner has drawn parallels to a previous high court directive that granted Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal additional lawyer consultations under similar circumstances.
Highlighting his right to legal consultation as enshrined in the Constitution, Chandrashekar argued for the necessity of increased legal dialogue, citing the extensive nature of the allegations against him, which include corruption, extortion, money laundering, and involvement in organized crime.

The petition stresses that restricting such consultations not only violates his constitutional rights but also impacts the fairness of the judicial process. Chandrashekar’s legal entanglements include accusations of defrauding Shivinder Singh and Malvinder Singh, former Ranbaxy promoters, of Rs 200 crore, among other charges.
