A Delhi court has issued a summons to popular YouTuber Dhruv Rathee, following a defamation lawsuit lodged by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suresh Karamshi Nakhua. The legal action was taken after Rathee allegedly described Nakhua as a “violent and abusive” troll in a video uploaded to his YouTube channel.
The controversy stems from a video titled “My Reply to Godi Youtubers | Elvish Yadav | Dhruv Rathee,” posted on July 7, 2024, in which Rathee made the contentious remarks. Nakhua, who serves as the BJP spokesperson for its Mumbai unit, claimed that Rathee’s statements were unfounded and harmful to his reputation.
According to reports from Bar and Bench, Nakhua expressed in court that Rathee’s video was “highly provocative and incendiary,” and it quickly spread across digital platforms, garnering significant attention. He argued that the video insinuated that he was associated with troll activities, which he vehemently denies.
The court has not only summoned Rathee but also issued a notice concerning Nakhua’s plea for interim relief, setting the next hearing for August 6.
