Cricket World Cup 2023: PIL Filed in Allahabad HC Challenging Ticket Prices of Match at Ekana Stadium

A PIL has been Filed through Advocate Piyush Pathak in Allahabad High Court at Lucknow to Address Discrepancies in Ticket Pricing for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 matches to be held at Ekana Stadium, Lucknow.

To ensure accessibility and inclusivity for all cricket enthusiasts, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad, Bench at Lucknow. The PIL highlights concerns regarding the pricing of tickets for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 matches to be held at Ekana Stadium, Lucknow.

Discrepancies in Ticket Pricing: 

The PIL highlights significant discrepancies in ticket pricing, with some tickets being excessively priced and out of reach for economically weaker sections of society. This differential pricing contradicts the principles of equality before the law enshrined in Article 14 of the Constitution of India. That for some matches tickets are 499 onwards however for matches to be held in Ekana start at 3250 onwards. 

Lack of Transparency: 

Furthermore, there is a lack of transparency in the ticket pricing policy. It remains unclear how the pricing for tickets is determined, raising concerns about fairness and inclusivity.

It calls for a review of ticket pricing policies, transparency in criteria, and procedures for determining ticket prices, and the appointment of a monitoring committee to oversee compliance.
