CJ of Allahabad HC Inaugurates Legal Aid Defense Counsel System in 40 Districts of State

Ensuring the Constitutional mandate to provide free legal aid & advice to the needy person and weaker sections of the society, a Front Office of UP State Legal Services Authority has been inaugurated at High Court premises, Allahabad, on 2nd May, 2023 at 04.30 P.M. by the Justice Pritinker Diwaker, Chief Justice, Allahabad High Court/Patron-in-Chief, UPSLSA.

Apart from this, the Legal Aid Defense Counsel System, established under the directions of the National Legal Services Authority, in 40 districts of Uttar Pradesh has also been inaugurated by Justice Pritinker Diwaker, Chief Justice, Allahabad High Court/Patron-in-Chief, UPSLSA, through virtual mode at 04:55 P.M.

On these auspicious occasions, Justice Sunita Agarwal, Executive Chairperson, UPSLSA and Justice Surya Prakash Kesarwani, Chairman, HCLSC, Allahabad and other puisne judges of Hon’ble High Court of Judicature at Allahabad also graced the function.

All the officers of the Registry of Hon’ble High Court, District Judges/Chairpersons, Secretaries DLSA, Judicial Officers and the Chief, Deputy and Assistant Defense Counsels of Legal Aid Defense Counsel System of the above mentioned districts were also present.

It’s worthy to mention here that the Legal Aid Defense Counsel System has been made functional in 40 districts of Uttar Pradesh namely Agra, Aligarh, Allahabad, Ambedkar Nagar, Azamgarh, Baghpat, Balrampur, Barabanki, Basti, Bhadohi, Bijnor, Budaun, Chitrakoot, Etah, Faizabad, Fatehpur, Gautambudha Nagar, Ghaziabad, Gorakhpur, Hardoi, Jalaun, Kannauj, Kanpur Dehat, Kanshiram Nagar, Lakhimpur Kheri, Lucknow, Mahrajganj, Mahoba, Mau, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Pratapgarh, Raebareli, Saharanpur, Shravasti, Sitapur, Sonbhadra, Sultanpur, Unnao and Varanasi to provide free legal services to the weaker sections of the society, to represent or defend their side, in pending criminal cases against them.
