In a peculiar case that has emerged in the Bombay High Court, a CISF jawan faced reprimand and a fine for knocking on a woman neighbor’s door at midnight to ask for a lemon. Following the imposition of the fine, the jawan filed a petition in the court to overturn the penalty.
However, the Bombay High Court, deeming the jawan’s actions as absurd, refused any relief and sternly rebuked him. Notably, the woman’s husband, a colleague of the accused, was on duty in West Bengal during an election period.
The incident involves 33-year-old Arvind Kumar, stationed at Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, who allegedly knocked on his neighbor’s door between the nights of April 19 and 20, 2021. The house was occupied only by the woman and her 6-year-old daughter at the time. The woman reported feeling frightened and requested Arvind not to bother her, noting her husband’s absence due to duty in West Bengal.
Arvind claimed he was feeling unwell and merely wanted to ask for a lemon. Following the incident, Arvind’s salary was reduced for three years, with no increments as a disciplinary measure.
Arvind filed a petition against the penalties imposed by CISF officials between July 2021 and June 2022. The Bombay High Court, in its verdict, noted that the jawan had consumed alcohol before the incident and was aware that the woman’s husband was not at home, leaving her alone with her daughter.
