The Bombay High Court has ordered the relocation of the Paraplegic Foundation, a vital support organization for paraplegics, within the Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General (LTMG) Hospital in Sion, following an eviction from its long-held premises due to redevelopment plans. The Foundation is granted a five-year period to operate out of alternative premises within the hospital complex.
On Monday, Justice NJ Jamadar of the high court confirmed the necessity of evicting the Foundation from the old barracks, which have been its home since 1968, to accommodate a ₹660 crore redevelopment project of the hospital. However, acknowledging the crucial role played by the Foundation in assisting the hospital’s rehabilitation efforts, the court directed the hospital administration to provide a 1,400-square-foot space to the Foundation.
The directive ensures that the Foundation can continue its rehabilitation services without disruption. “The necessity of a facility which caters to the requirements of paraplegic can hardly be over-emphasized,” stated the court, highlighting the importance of maintaining continuity in care and support for paraplegics undergoing treatment.

The Foundation had initially approached the civil court after being ordered to vacate by the chief enquiry officer of the civil court. Following the dismissal of its appeal by the principal judge of the civil court, the Foundation sought redress from the high court.
