In a significant development, the Bar Council of India (BCI) has issued a stern warning against the dissemination of false news concerning an alleged lawyers’ strike, vowing to take stringent legal action against those spreading such misinformation. The BCI’s announcement comes in response to rumors circulating on social media platforms, purporting a nationwide strike by lawyers which the council vehemently denies.
The BCI, in its statement, declared its intent to file an FIR against individuals found responsible for propagating the baseless news. “Any lawyer identified as sharing such fake news will be subject to misconduct proceedings,” the BCI confirmed, underscoring the serious repercussions for those involved in this misleading campaign.
This fake strike news reportedly originated from a fictitious article claimed to be published in a Hindi newspaper, which the BCI has categorically dismissed as a complete fabrication. The false reports were allegedly aimed at causing confusion among lawyers, prejudicing clients, and maligning the esteemed reputation of both the institution and its Chairman, Manan Kumar Mishra.
The council made it clear that no call for a demonstration or strike has been authorized by them for February 12, 2025, or any other date. “It is important that all members of the legal fraternity ignore these falsehoods and continue their professional duties without disruption,” stated the BCI.
Further addressing the concerns of the legal community, the BCI highlighted that crucial issues such as medical insurance and safety measures for lawyers are already being addressed by a dedicated committee formed by the Ministry of Law and Justice. As such, there is no justification for any protest or agitation related to these matters.
