On Monday, the Allahabad High Court while entertaining a Public Interest Litigation has directed that movement of only permitted golf carts be allowed around restricted zone of Taj Mahal.
A public interest litigation was filed for regulating movement of Golf Carts in the periphery of monument “Taj Mahal” at Agra.
As per the petitioners, within the zone of 500 meters from the monument, several unregistered Golf Carts are operating which are not only polluting the area, but are also hazard in smooth movement of traffic.
It was brought to notice of Court that Agra Development Authority, Agra by several communications has communicated to the District Magistrate, Agra to take appropriate steps for regulating the movement of Golf Carts but is of no consequence.
Considering the facts, the bench of Hon’ble Chief Justice Govind Mathur, and Hon’ble Saurabh Shyam Shamshery,J deemed it appropriate to have a short counter affidavit to the writ petition on behalf of respondent nos. 2 and 3 on or before next date of listing.

However In the meanwhile, the Allahabad High Court has directed that the District Magistrate, Agra shall ensure movement of permitted Golf Carts within the restricted zones around the monument Taj Mahal.
