Allahabad High Court has postponed the hearing on a plea seeking an Archaeological Survey of India examination of the Gyanvapi mosque’s ablution area until November 30, awaiting upcoming proceedings in the Supreme Court.
Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal ordered the adjournment on Tuesday after being informed that the apex court is currently addressing the matter, with its next hearing scheduled for November 17. In light of the ongoing Supreme Court proceedings, the High Court deferred the case and instructed that it be listed on November 30 alongside connected petitions.
The civil revision petition, filed by Rakhi Singh—one of the original plaintiffs in the Varanasi court—seeks an ASI survey of the wazukhana, or ablution pond, within the mosque premises. The plea specifically excludes the contested structure inside the area, which the Hindu side describes as a Shivling and the Muslim side identifies as a fountain.
Singh approached the High Court to challenge an order issued by the Varanasi District Judge on October 21, 2023, which dismissed the request to direct an ASI survey of the wazukhana excluding the disputed structure.
