Allahabad HC asks the UP government about the timeline for filling vacancies in Revenue Courts

On Wednesday, the Allahabad High Court directed the UP government to file a statement stating the time required to fill up existing vacancies in Revenue Courts in the State.

The Division Bench asked the Standing Counsel to appear before them on 24.02.2021 with all the details regarding filling up the vacancies.

Background of the Case:-

The direction described above was during the hearing of a suo moto case registered by the Allahabad High Court to address the issue of pending vacancies.

Last year in November, the High Court asked the State Chief Secretary to file an affidavit indicating steps taken by the UP government to provide infrastructure to the State’s Revenue Courts.

In this regard, the Court registered a suo moto case in January 2021 to check lack of Judicial Courts of Revenue Courts.

The Court also expressed disappointment at State’s failure to file affidavit concerning efforts made for filling existing vacancies.

Standing Counsel of the State on Wednesday informed the Court that an affidavit would be prepared during the day and submitted in the Court registry.

But when the Court inquired when the vacancies will be filled, the standing counsel was not in a position to provide answers.

The Court will now hear the case on 24.02.2021.
