The Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) has taken legal steps against the National Investigation Agency (NIA) court’s decision to deny custody parole to Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid, appealing to the Delhi High Court a day after the rejection. The appeal is set for a hearing tomorrow before a Division Bench.
This move comes in the wake of the NIA court’s refusal to allow Er Rashid to attend the ongoing session of Parliament, a decision that has stirred considerable unrest within AIP ranks. Inam Un Nabi, the chief spokesperson for AIP, voiced the party’s deep disappointment, highlighting the denial of Rashid’s fundamental rights as an elected representative. “The rejection of custody parole by the NIA court is yet another example of the unjust treatment meted out to him,” Un Nabi stated.
AIP’s leadership argues that denying Rashid the ability to serve his constituents not only undermines his responsibilities but also deprives the people of Baramulla of their representation in Parliament. The party remains committed to its legal and political efforts to ensure that Rashid can fulfill his parliamentary duties.
