Madras High Court Upholds Speaker’s Acceptance of Six AIADMK MLAs’ Resignations

The Madras High Court on Tuesday upheld Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker JCD Prabhakar’s decision to accept the resignations of six AIADMK legislators who subsequently joined the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari and Justice G Arul Murugan dismissed the challenge brought by AIADMK whip Agri SS Krishnamurthy against the Speaker’s decision.

The six legislators had secured their Assembly seats on AIADMK tickets in the April 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections before resigning from the House on different dates between May and June.

Among them, S Jayakumar, Maragatham Kumaravel and P Sathyabama, representing Perundurai, Madurantakam and Dharapuram constituencies, respectively, submitted their resignations on May 25, 2026.

Esakki Subaya, who represented Ambasamudram, resigned on May 26. Two other legislators, C Vijayabhaskar from Viralimalai and M R Vijayabhaskar from Karur, stepped down on June 16 and June 29, respectively.
