Supreme Court Halts Allahabad High Court Proceedings In Rahul Gandhi Assets Case

The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Allahabad High Court to stay proceedings in a disproportionate assets case against Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.

The three-judge bench, comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi, and Justice V Mohana, also restrained central investigative agencies from submitting reports in the matter. Specifically, the top court instructed both the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) not to file any report before the High Court in connection with the case.

The order was issued during the hearing of a petition filed by Gandhi challenging an order of the Allahabad High Court. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal represented the Congress leader during the proceedings.

Taking note of the arguments presented by Gandhi’s counsel, the Supreme Court issued formal notices to the CBI, the ED, and S Vignesh Shishir, a resident of Karnataka who had filed the original plea in the High Court.
