JKL HC Chief Justice Leads by Example with Fuel Conservation Initiative; Relieves Security Vehicle Amidst Middle-East Crisis

The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has issued a new administrative order directing the temporary surrender of one of the security vehicles assigned to Chief Justice Arun Palli. This measure has been enacted to address national energy challenges and promote resource conservation amid geopolitical tensions.

The directive, communicated through an official administrative order of the High Court dated May 14, 2026, serves as a direct response to nationwide fuel conservation efforts. It follows a national appeal by the Prime Minister of India highlighting global energy supply vulnerabilities.

Geopolitical Pressures and the Push for Energy Conservation

The administrative decision was prompted by the global energy supply pressures generated by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The official order notes that the current national situation and the difficulties faced across the country due to the Middle-East crisis have created significant uncertainty regarding the supply and availability of petroleum products and energy resources.

In addition to these international pressures, the administrative action aligns with national policies and appeals for conservation. The order indicates that the step was taken to support the Prime Minister’s appeal to exercise caution and conserve vital energy resources to prepare for future exigencies.

In light of these combined factors, the High Court administration determined that it was necessary and appropriate to rationalize the deployment of official and security vehicles attached to the Chief Justice.

Directive of the Chief Justice

Pursuant to this strategy of fuel conservation and resource optimization, the Chief Justice issued instructions to reduce the transport fleet allocated to his personal security detail. The administrative communication indicates that the Chief Justice directed the temporary release of one of the security vehicles currently deployed with him. This action is intended to minimize overall fuel consumption and ensure the prudent utilization of public resources under the current circumstances.

The administrative department responsible for handling security logistics has been formally requested to take the necessary steps to execute this directive. Additionally, a copy of the official communication has been forwarded to the Principal Secretary to the Chief Justice at the High Court in Srinagar for formal notification.
