Uttarakhand High Court Orders Centre to Probe Alleged ₹8-Crore Financial Irregularities at IIM Kashipur

The Uttarakhand High Court has directed the Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, to look into allegations of financial mismanagement at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kashipur, following claims of excess expenditure exceeding ₹8 crore.

A division bench of Chief Justice G. Narendra and Justice Subhash Upadhyay passed the order while hearing a petition filed by Kashipur resident Sukhwinder Singh. The petitioner highlighted that auditors had raised objections regarding large-scale financial irregularities at the institute. However, he contended that although the Board of Directors is responsible for examining such objections, no corrective action or inquiry had been initiated over the past two years.

During the hearing, the petitioner requested the court to intervene and ensure that an independent investigation is conducted into the alleged mismanagement.

Taking note of the concerns, the bench directed the Ministry of Education to treat the petition as a formal representation and complete the inquiry within four weeks.

The matter is expected to be taken up again after the Centre submits its findings.
