The Jharkhand High Court on Wednesday directed the state government to register a First Information Report (FIR) over the alleged encounter killing of gangster Aman Sao, after noting that no formal case had been lodged despite the victim’s mother filing an online complaint.
A division bench of Justices Sujit Narayan Prasad and Arun Kumar Rai issued the direction while hearing a petition filed by Kiran Devi, who has sought a CBI investigation as well as registration of an FIR into her son’s death.
Sao was allegedly killed in a police gunfight earlier this year. According to Kiran Devi, he was being transported from Raipur in Chhattisgarh to Ranchi when he was shot dead by the police in Palamu on March 11. She told the court that she had already expressed fear that her son might be killed in a staged encounter.
Despite submitting an online complaint, no FIR was registered by the local police, she said.
Taking note of the grievance, the bench directed the state to ensure registration of the FIR. The matter has been listed for further hearing on November 28.
