The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday reserved its judgment on a habeas corpus petition filed by Preeti Yadav, who has accused the Farrukhabad police of illegally detaining her husband and coercing her to withdraw her petition.
A division bench of Justice JJ Munir and Justice Sanjiv Kumar reserved the order after hearing submissions from all parties involved.
Yadav’s petition claimed that her husband and another individual were illegally detained by Farrukhabad police on September 8 and released only on September 14. She further alleged that during this period, she was forced to sign papers and write a letter under pressure from the police.

During the proceedings, Superintendent of Police (SP), Farrukhabad, Arti Singh tendered an unconditional apology before the bench. The court directed her to file a personal affidavit explaining the circumstances of the case.
The court also took note of an application filed by advocate Awdhesh Kumar Mishra, through counsels Amrendra Nath Singh and Prashant Singh Rinku. Mishra stated that Yadav had filed the habeas corpus petition on his legal advice, and alleged that to pressure him, the police lodged an FIR against him.
In a dramatic turn on Tuesday, following the day’s hearing, police arrested Mishra who had accompanied the petitioner to court. A mention was immediately made before the bench, which ordered SP Arti Singh not to leave the court premises until Mishra was produced. He was later brought before the court, which then directed the SP to submit her personal affidavit on Wednesday.
