Allahabad High Court Grants Bail to Former SP MLA Irfan Solanki in Gangsters Act Case

The Allahabad High Court on Thursday granted bail to former Samajwadi Party MLA Irfan Solanki in a case registered against him under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act.

The order was passed by Justice Samir Jain, who had reserved judgment on September 2 after hearing detailed arguments from both sides.

The case against Solanki was registered at Jajmau police station in Kanpur under provisions of the Gangsters Act. The police had alleged his involvement in activities attracting the stringent law meant to curb organised crime and anti-social elements in the state.

During the course of hearing, counsels for Solanki argued that he was being falsely implicated for political reasons and that there was no credible material to justify his continued detention under the Act. The prosecution, however, opposed the bail plea citing the gravity of the allegations.

After considering the submissions, Justice Jain pronounced the order granting bail to the former MLA.

Solanki, who has represented the Sisamau constituency in Kanpur multiple times as an SP legislator, has been facing multiple criminal cases in recent years. His bail in the present case marks a significant relief for the politician, who has consistently maintained that the cases are politically motivated.
