Delhi HC Allows Removal of Mandhira Kapur’s Name from Order in Dispute Over Sunjay Kapur’s Will

The Delhi High Court on Friday allowed an application filed by Priya Kapur seeking removal of her late husband Sanjay (Sunjay) Kapur’s sister, Mandhira Kapur’s, name from its earlier order in the ongoing dispute over his purported will.

Justice Jyoti Singh passed the order in proceedings arising out of a plaint filed by Sunjay’s two children with former wife and actor Karisma Kapoor. The children have challenged the validity of the will and sought shares in Sunjay’s assets, reportedly worth over ₹30,000 crore.

The court permitted the application moved on behalf of Priya and her minor son, which argued that the September 10 order “wrongfully reflected” the appearance of counsel for Mandhira, despite her not being a party to the case.

Senior advocate Rajiv Nayar, appearing for Priya, told the court that inclusion of Mandhira’s name was “an attempt to gain a back door entry into the case.”

On September 10, the court had directed Priya to disclose all movable and immovable assets owned by Sunjay as of June 12, the day of his sudden death.

Sunjay Kapur, an industrialist, died on June 12 during a polo match in London after suffering a heart attack reportedly caused by swallowing a bee. His mother, Rani Kapur, has since written to UK authorities, calling for a probe into the death, alleging it may not have been natural and pointing to possible “murder, conspiracy, and financial fraud.”

Sunjay had married Karisma Kapoor in 2003, but the couple divorced in 2016. He later married Priya, with whom he has a minor son.

The dispute over his vast estate continues before the Delhi High Court.
