In a notable development in the post-poll violence case being probed by the CBI, a judge of the Calcutta High Court on Friday recused herself from hearing the interim bail plea of an accused police officer, citing personal grounds.
Justice Suvra Ghosh released the matter from her court through a brief one-line order, after a disagreement arose during the hearing. The senior advocate appearing for the woman officer, Ratna Sarkar, insisted that the interim bail plea be concluded the same day. However, the judge had indicated that the matter would be taken up for further hearing at a later date.
The case pertains to the alleged murder of Abhijit Sarkar during the post-election violence that erupted in Kolkata in 2021. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating the incident following directions from the courts.

Ratna Sarkar, a police officer, is among four individuals recently taken into custody following an order by the trial court hearing the matter. Her interim bail application was listed before Justice Ghosh for consideration.
Following the insistence of the counsel to conclude arguments on Friday itself, Justice Ghosh stepped away from the case, citing personal reasons.
