Delhi Court Pushes for Swift Housing Solution for Judicial Officers Amid Residential Shortages

In a recent hearing, the Delhi High Court emphasized the urgency of resolving the housing crisis faced by Delhi judicial service officers and the Delhi higher judicial services officers. The court was responding to petitions from the Judicial Service Association, which highlighted a significant shortfall in government-provided residential accommodations.

The association has pointed out the availability of two alternative plots of land in Rohini and Anand Vihar, which are currently under consideration by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) for the construction of residential flats. The court expressed its expectation that the DDA would actively consider the proposal.

During the proceedings, the DDA counsel assured the court that a formal allotment letter for the proposed constructions would be issued within two weeks, also promising to keep the court and government informed. The bench responded by stating that the release of necessary funds would follow the issuance of the allotment letter.

Further addressing the issue, the bench criticized the slow response of government authorities to judicial directives, questioning whether government officers were sufficiently attentive to judicial orders. It underscored the importance of adhering to the Supreme Court’s guidelines on the matter, warning that any negligence could be met with serious consequences.

Adding to the directives, the court provided the Delhi government a three-week window to make a definitive decision regarding a meeting on fund allocation for the construction of flats in Dwarka. This site had previously seen developments demolished due to substandard construction quality.
