Delhi HC Issues Notice to AAP Leader Atishi on Plea Alleging Corrupt Practices in Kalkaji Election

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued a notice to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former minister Atishi in response to a petition challenging her election from the Kalkaji assembly constituency on allegations of corrupt practices during the recent state polls.

Justice Jyoti Singh also issued notices to the Election Commission of India (ECI), Delhi Police, and the returning officer of the Kalkaji constituency. The matter is now scheduled for further hearing on July 30.

The petition was filed by Kamaljit Singh Duggal and Ayush Rana, both residents of the Kalkaji area. Through their counsel, advocate T Singhdev, the petitioners have alleged that Atishi and her election agents engaged in corrupt practices in violation of electoral laws, and have sought that her election be declared null and void.

During the hearing, legal representatives of the Election Commission and the returning officer objected to their inclusion as parties in the case.

Atishi, a prominent AAP leader, secured victory from the Kalkaji seat in the February 5 election, defeating her BJP opponent Ramesh Bidhuri by a margin of 3,521 votes. The results were declared on February 8.
