Near-Divorce Over Child’s Name, Court Intervention Reunites Couple

In an unusual turn of events, a name dispute between a couple from Hunsur, Mysuru district, which escalated to near-divorce and court intervention, concluded with a heartwarming reunion this Saturday. After three years of discord following their child’s birth in 2021, the couple finally agreed on a name in a courtroom setting, a resolution that brought them back together in a celebration marked by exchanged garlands and shared sweets.

The contention began when the wife, soon after giving birth, started calling their baby ‘Adi’, a name informally used but never officially registered. Her husband, distant since her pregnancy announcement, disagreed, preferring a name that honored the god Shani. Their inability to find a compromise led the wife to seek legal recourse for maintenance under Section 125 of the CrPC, indicating the severity of their rift.
