The Delhi High Court has called for the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) input regarding the interim bail granted to the CEO and a coordinator of Rau’s IAS Study Circle. This follows a tragic incident where three civil service aspirants drowned in the coaching center’s basement due to flooding caused by heavy rainfall.
Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma issued notices to the CBI along with the coaching center’s CEO, Abhishek Gupta, and coordinator, Deshpal Singh, responding to a plea from J Dalvin Suresh, whose son Nevin Delvin was among the deceased. The plea challenges the trial court’s decision on September 23 to grant bail to the two men.
The victims, identified as Shreya Yadav (25) from Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni (25) from Telangana, and Nevin Delvin (24) from Kerala, tragically lost their lives on July 27 in the basement of a building in Old Rajinder Nagar, central Delhi, following unexpected flooding.
Suresh has petitioned the high court to revoke the interim bail and transfer the accused into CBI custody, citing the gravity of the negligence involved. The trial court had released Gupta and Singh on interim bail after they had spent over 54 days in custody, noting that the property owners were also out on interim bail.
Moreover, Principal District and Sessions Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna had ordered Gupta to deposit Rs 2.5 crore with the Red Cross Society by November 30. This decision underscored the responsibility held by Gupta and Singh, as per the lease agreement, for any losses, claims, or damages at the institute.
