In a significant judicial appointment, Justice D Krishnakumar was sworn in as the new Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur on Friday. The oath of office was administered by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya during a formal ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan in Imphal, marking Justice Krishnakumar as the eighth Chief Justice of the state’s High Court.
This swift appointment came within just 48 hours after the Supreme Court Collegium recommended his name for the position on Wednesday. Justice Krishnakumar succeeds Justice Siddharth Mridul, who recently retired from his duties.
Prior to his new role, Justice Krishnakumar had an extensive legal career, including serving as a judge at the Madras High Court. His wealth of experience is expected to bring valuable insights and leadership to the High Court of Manipur.
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh extended his congratulations to Justice Krishnakumar, emphasizing the state’s anticipation of his contributions. “I look forward to working with you in furthering the cause of justice and ensuring that every citizen’s rights are safeguarded and respected,” Singh remarked on X, formerly known as Twitter. He added, “May your tenure be filled with wisdom, progress, and positive transformation for the people of Manipur.”
