Rajasthan High Court Halts Sub-Inspector Recruitment Exam-2021; Issues Notice to Authorities

The Rajasthan High Court on Monday issued an injunction to maintain the status quo on the Sub-Inspector Recruitment Exam-2021, following allegations of irregularities and arrests related to the examination process.

Justice Sameer Jain presided over the hearing, during which notices were dispatched to several key authorities, including the Home Department, Rajasthan’s Director General of Police (DGP), the Secretary of the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC), and the Additional Director General (ADG) of the Special Operations Group (SOG).

According to advocate Harendra Neel, the court’s decision effectively pauses any further action regarding the examination process, which includes the passing out parade and subsequent field postings of the trainees. “With the court’s order to maintain status quo, there is now a sword hanging over the future of these trainees,” Neel explained.

The controversy surrounds the recruitment test initially held to fill 859 vacancies, which has since been marred by the arrest of 150 individuals, including 50 trainee sub-inspectors and two members of the RPSC, following a police investigation into alleged malpractices.

The examination’s integrity was further questioned leading to recommendations for its cancellation by both police headquarters and the advocate general. However, the fate of the selected candidates who have completed their training and are on the verge of being posted remains uncertain.

In response to the growing crisis, a cabinet committee of six ministers was formed on October 1, tasked with deciding the future of the recruitment examination. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel has been appointed as the convener of this committee.
