The incident occurred during a session of the court’s vacation bench, which was being broadcasted on YouTube, leading to an unexpected display of obscene content.
The disruption took place on Monday in courtroom number 7 during a hearing presided over by Justice Subhasish Samanta. According to police reports, an obscene video appeared on the live feed for nearly a minute before the stream could be terminated. The high court’s IT department was quick to detect the anomaly and initiated an internal probe before escalating the issue to the cybercrime section of Kolkata Police.
An officer involved in the case stated, “An investigation is on. We will be checking what happened and try to spot the miscreants behind this.” The police’s cybercrime unit moved swiftly to address the security breach after receiving a formal complaint from the high court’s IT department late Monday evening.
This incident has raised concerns about the security measures in place for the digital transmission of court proceedings, which have become more common due to the pandemic and the push towards greater transparency in the judiciary.
